Step into the Past in Crown King, AZ

With a population of less than 200, you wouldn’t think that Crown King, AZ, would be much of a tourist destination. However, with its unique prospecting- town past and current ghost-town status, it has a unique draw to Arizona visitors as well as our staff here at Sand Highway RV Rentals. Here’s why.

About Crown King

Crown King ArizonaIn the late 1800s, Crown King became a settlement for prospectors looking to hit it rich mining. Several profitable mines were opened, with more than $2 million in gold extracted. However, prospectors found trouble in trying to get their loot through the mountains. Prospector turned on prospector, and soon enough the town dried up.

Today, you can still visit the ol’ General Store that’s been standing there since 1904. Grab yourself a snack, or go spend some time at the local Ora Belle Saloon. If you’ve never been to an authentic ghost town with a unique history, we recommend that you visit at least once.

However, we do offer a word of caution: The roads to Crown King are pretty rough. Local authorities recommend “four wheel drive, high-clearance vehicles to get into town.” Many visitors also choose to drive an ATV.
